What you have learnt from this preliminary task?

In this preliminary task we made a lot of problems but hopefully we could overcome them in our real thing. As a group, I feel we could have been more creative coming up with ideas for this specific song. We didn't think outside of the box, we had chosen to do the classical 'naration' with the music video. I do feel we could have used more jump cuts in this video, however, I also think the choice of the song was not suitable for us. If we had chosen a better song then perhaps we could have included more variety of shots and transitions. The jump curs at the end of the video didn't work well with the overall production. We were trying to make the cuts on the words but that didn't work. Also the lipsinking was not perfect near the end of music video. I also think we could've done a better job if we had a better actor to work with (I was the actor).

On the other hand, there were some parts rhat worked well such as tje starting of the music video. The close-up of the make-up on the table sets the whole location and the mood of the music video. Another idea i felt worked well was the cut outs of models and celebs used- this showed she was trying to find herself (also matched with the lyrics). Also the transition from one location to another worked really well. The transition from the bedroom to the shof in the roses and then back again. The slow motion running shot also went with the song. Another thing I was really pleased with was that we had enoughrecorded for music video. Our camera woman (Mahida)shoted extra footage just in case we needed to used it, the camera wasn't turned off at any point. Mahida had also recorded the points where I messedup and laughed just in case they worked but than the real ones.

For the real one, we want to make surr that we choose the right song and think about all the options we could use. I also want to make sure that we have extra footage just in case we don't have time to re-record. We also want to make sure that ww don't make the same mistake again.

Preliminary Task planning: synopsis of Who Says

It satrts with close-ups of make up (cut aways) for the first 3 seconds of the music. Mid-shot of the chair (sets the location). Singer walks into the shot, says the first line. Cuts to picking up lip balm, puting it on, close-up of lips (cuts to the beat of the music).
Cuts to sorting out the pictures (beat of the music), quick cut of a mid-shot to the singer's head. Sudden cut to the table with pictures of the singer (mirror) throws away the picture of the models, bin shot (close-up). Close-up of singer's face (satisfied) cut-a-aways to different people's faces saying different lines. "when it comes to me" back to the singer (close-up)- over the shoulder shot (mirror). 
Mid-shot of pushing chair + make up, sudden cut to walking through the roses (back view). Front view then... Sitting in Sureya's garden (a friends house) on the bench with rose, (long shot). Cuts to bench rocking, close-up "who says" to singer's face. 
Close-up to mirror "perfect" on the mirror with red lipstick. Cuts to "who says"- singer in the garden with rose. 
Cuts to mid-shot in front of the mirror (who says). extreme close-up of the rose, singer holding the rose. Mid-shot in the roses for "trust me..." cuts to close-up to the singer's face. Cuts to close-up of "pretty" on the table with eye-shadow. Ariel shot of the singer dropping on the bed then extreme close-up of the singer's face.

Preliminary Task planning: change of idea

As a group we have decided to change our 1st idea due to the resources available and the amount of cast needed to record. Some shot where lots of people are needed and preparing the BBQ is difficult to do + it wouldn't work well. it is also difficult to gather that amount of people for that day and the location is at someone house which may cause problems. Therefore, we have decided to change our idea as a whole, however, we have decided to keep some shots as they work well.

Preliminary Task planning: 1st idea

- Starts off with the singer behind Curtains
- Someone fixes her hair
- Singer goes on the stage and sings
- Cuts to judges talking about the singers looks
- Cuts to a table where the singer is fixing her own image (different face, body, clothes etc) this shows she is trying to find herself.
- Cut to her walking out of the audition 
- Then at night, BBQ, we see her walking towards the camera, down the lane...
- Friends around her dancing, the singer walks down with a guitar boy behind her.
- Her whole picture finished
- Different people saying different parts of the line
